RICHMOND
MILK BAR
 This
1/4" to the foot model of a typical Melbourne (Australia) milk bar
was built from plans drawn by Phil Shapter, who also drew the plans for
the lighthouse. The plans were based on an actual structure located in
the inner Melbourne suburb of Richmond. These shops were located on
almost every second corner and supplied the neighbourhood with many of
their staple needs. Originally this building had the main front shop, a
second addition, which was the residence, with a third section at the
back with contained the laundry, toilet and other storage areas. I left
the centre residence from the model to bring it back to a reasonable
length.
Note
the picture frame that nicely finishes off the diorama. These are
reasonably priced and are available from most discount stores.
They are a good way to handle the model, so you do not damage the
scenery or fine detail parts.
If you have a
mitre saw that cuts at 45 degrees you can alter the standard frame to
suit the size of the diorama base.
